Volunteer Opportunity: Help Us Save Lives with Reflective Address Signs!

Many addresses in our area require that the caller give 911 dispatchers detailed information on how to find their driveway or access road in order for emergency responders to provide rapid assistance.

When an emergency strikes, every second counts. Unfortunately, many homes in our area sit far back from main roads, making hidden driveways a major challenge for emergency responders.

Our Fire Corps is on a mission to ensure every home has a highly visible, reflective address sign at the entrance of their driveway or common access road. We need dedicated volunteers like you to help us achieve this goal!

What You’ll Do as a Volunteer:

Assemble and Install Signs: Help install standard 6" x 13" reflective address signs and mounting posts for property owners within the district.

Clarify Navigation: Ensure signs are placed perfectly at the start of driveways or key intersections so fire and medical personnel can find homes instantly.

Make a Lifesaving Impact: Your hands-on work directly eliminates delays for 911 dispatchers and emergency crews when residents need help the most.

Help Us Teach Life-Saving Skills: Volunteer with Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire Corps

Every month, community members gather at our station to learn how to respond to cardiac arrests, choking, and medical emergencies. These essential American Heart Association "Heartsaver" classes are run by the Fire Corps—and we are looking for passionate volunteers to join our team!

How You Can Help

You don’t need to be a paramedic to make an impact. We need volunteers to help with:

Classroom Support: Welcoming students, managing registration, and setting up video-based modules.Skills Assessment: Assisting instructors as students practice and test their skills (compressions, breaths, stopping bleeding, and using AEDs/EpiPens).Community Outreach: Helping us spread the word so more residents get certified.

Class Overview

The Schedule: Classes are held periodically on a full-day schedule, starting at 9:00 AM and finishing in the mid-afternoon.The Location: Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District Community Hall (301 S. Elm Street).The Content: Basic-level, general audience training covering medical, injury, and environmental emergencies, alongside hands-on CPR/AED practice.

Community Easter Egg Hunt 

For over 45 years, the Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire & Ambulance Association has brought joy to local families with our annual Easter Sunday Egg Hunt. It’s a massive community favorite, drawing hundreds of eager children and families to Creekside Park for egg hunting, fire engine tours, and a visit from the Easter Bunny.

An event this special takes a village! We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our organizing and event-day team. Whether you want to help hide some of the 6,000+ plastic eggs, assist with setup, or help coordinate the chaos when the sirens blast, your time will help create unforgettable memories for our community’s kids. Join the Firebusters Team: Teach Kids, Save Lives!

Looking for a meaningful way to give back to the our community? Our FIREBUSTERS Fire & Life Safety Program is in October and we need passionate volunteers like you to help elementary students stay aware, alert, and safe!

As a volunteer, you will take your time to visit local schools (Grades K–5) and guide students through quick, impactful safety lessons.

Event Details

Month: October Time Commitment: Highly flexible! Lessons can be done in as little as 5 minutes a day for one week.Target Audience: Kindergarten through 5th-grade students across Central Oregon.

How the Program Works (And Why Kids Love It)

We make volunteering easy by providing all the tools you need to engage the classroom:

Short Videos: Five locally-produced 30-second videos introduce each daily topic. (These will also air on KTVZ at 6:30 AM/PM and are accessible via QR code/website).Activity Sheets: Kids fill these out to reinforce what you teach them and to enter a prize drawing.Awesome Incentives: Every participating student gets a coupon for a free McDonald's ice cream cone. Plus, schools with over 50% participation can win a Grand Prize special assembly featuring real local first responders and fire trucks!

Every year, the Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire & Ambulance Association brings the community together for a massive, free Halloween event at our downtown station, featuring a thrilling haunted maze, carnival games, and treats for local families. Plus, our crew out in Camp Sherman keeps the tradition alive by participating in the local Halloween parade!

An event this fun takes a lot of behind-the-scenes magic, and we need creative, energetic volunteers to help us pull it off. Whether you want to put on your designer hat to help build the haunted maze, run carnival games and activities, or just see the smiling faces of local kids as you pass out treats and prizes, there is a role for everyone. The Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District is looking for passionate volunteers to help provide free, personal home safety consultations for our local senior citizens and families. Our mission is simple: keep community members safe, healthy, and living independently by identifying fire and fall risks before emergencies happen.

No prior fire service experience is required—just a desire to help others. Because seniors are statistically the most vulnerable to these hazards, this program is incredibly impactful! If you want to use your life experience to give back, offer friendly advice, and help neighbors eliminate hazards in their cherished homes, we would love to have you on our team.

What you'll do:

Did you know that during a home fire, a family may have less than three minutes to safely escape? Working smoke alarms are the first line of defense, making a resident four times more likely to survive a home fire.

To keep our neighbors safe, the Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District relies on dedicated community volunteers to assist residents with critical, monthly smoke alarm maintenance. By joining our team, you’ll directly protect local families by helping us:

Check existing units to ensure they are functioning properly.Install user-supplied detectors in homes that need extra coverage.Replace batteries so residents are never left unprotected.

"Spray the Kids" End-of-School Tradition

Looking for a meaningful way to bring joy to our community? Look no further than our annual "Spray the Kids" celebration—a beloved, small-town tradition that officially kicks off summer break for the Sisters School District!

To celebrate the last day of school, firefighters from Sisters-Camp Sherman, Black Butte Ranch, and Cloverdale team up to give local students a massive, soaking-wet send-off. Events like this allow our department to connect directly with local youth, families, and school staff in a fun, positive environment.

Make a Christmas Miracle Happen: Volunteer for the Spirit of Christmas!

Every holiday season, the Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire & Ambulance Association—alongside incredible community partners and volunteers—comes together to ensure families in need throughout Sisters Country have a bright, joyful Christmas.

To give you an idea of the impact, in recent years this program has served 67 local families and brought holiday magic to 160 children, distributing over $10,000 worth of gifts and raising nearly $8,800 in cash donations.

We need your help to make this year just as successful! If you love the holiday season and want to give back to your community, we have the perfect volunteer opportunity for you.

What Do Volunteers Do?

As a volunteer, you will be the backbone of the North Pole operations. Your main tasks will include:

Setting Up Giving Trees: Helping place Christmas trees around the community filled with gift tags for children hoping for a holiday miracle.

Sorting & Organizing Gifts: As community members return gifts from the tags, you will help group and organize them by their specific tags.

Categorizing Donations: We receive an abundance of community donations and gifts! You will help sort and categorize these items by age group so they go to the perfect home.

Help Us Train Lifesavers: Volunteer for "Stop the Bleed"!

The Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District Fire Corps is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us facilitate our upcoming Stop the Bleed classes. This basic-level course empowers everyday citizens with the skills to save lives during medical emergencies, accidents, and disasters.

By volunteering, you aren't just helping run a class—you are directly strengthening our community's resilience and helping people gain the confidence to step in when seconds count.

How You Can Help 

We need a dedicated team to help with two critical components of the class:

Classroom Setup & Prep: Help us welcome community members and prep the training room at the Community Hall (301 S. Elm Street).

Skill Station Assistance: Guide participants through the hands-on portion of the class, ensuring they get practical, muscle-memory experience.

What We Teach (And What You'll Help Facilitate)

The class is a mix of a presentation and interactive "skill stations" focusing on life-saving actions:

Situational Safety: Teaching participants how to assess a scene so they stay safe while helping.

Identifying Critical Wounds: Showing the difference between a minor cut and a life-threatening bleed.

Pressure & Packing: Demonstrating how to pack a wound "to the bone" in tricky junctional areas (like the neck, shoulder, or groin).

Tourniquet Application: Guiding students through the critical "Pull, Twist, Clip" method—and coaching them through the reality that applying a life-saving tourniquet can be painful, but necessary.

A person can bleed out in as little as three minutes. The knowledge our community gains in this room can be the difference between life and death. Your time and support ensure our neighbors leave this class feeling capable, confident, and ready to act.

Action Starts at the Front Door: Join Our Wildfire Assessment Team

The Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District offers free consultations for local homeowners to review their home and look for ways to make their property more defendable during a wildfire and to help prevent the spread of wildfire.

Wildfire season is approaching, and the best way to protect our neighborhood is to prepare together. We are looking for passionate volunteers to help conduct Wildfire Home Assessments right here in our community.

As a volunteer, you will help neighbors identify simple, actionable ways to defend their homes against embers and wildfires—such as clearing dry debris, managing nearby vegetation, and creating defensible space.

No experience needed: Easy-to-follow training and checklists will be provided.

Make a real impact: Just a few hours of your time can save homes and protect lives.

Build a safer community: Help us ensure that every neighbor is prepared, informed, and ready.
